Anthony's movie review: The Good Dinosaur

Hey everyone, my name is Anthony and welcome back to my movie review.

Last time, i reviewed Pixar's "Inside-out", which is a greatest film we've ever seen with likable characters, colorful visuals and creative story. But then, something got curious that i've noticed. This is the first time that Pixar released two films in the same year, which i was surprised while reading it.

The Good Dinosaur is a Pixar film came out the same year with Inside-out and it was directed by Peter Sohn (Who's not only direct the film, but also work on the animation, and voice acting like Emile from Ratatouille.) When i saw a trailer, it looked promising that i would like to watch and enjoying dinosaurs.

So, can this film make me friendly with dinosaurs, or is this movie that i'd rather get killed by a meteor?

Lets find out.

The story
It takes place in alternate prehistoric after a meteor missed the Earth, a young Apatosaurus named Arlo lives with his family with his brother and sister. One day, his father Henry brings Arlo far away to show how not to be afraid, however, Henry died from the storm. Just then Arlo encountered a young caveboy with a name Spot to friend to help him to be live without starving a death. So Arlo has to find the way to get back home.
The only way to describe this movie is Pixar's version of "The land before time". Because the story is quiet similar if you never seen before. But unlike The land before time is about a Littlefoot who lost his mother and find the way to survive from Sharptooth, this one is about a young dinosaur and a caveboy to the adventure to find the way to go back home. It may be interesting, but it would've been creative than ripping off. And before you ask, no, i haven't watch The land before time. So, sorry Don Bluth... ^^;

The animation
I gotta say, the animation of this movie is pretty damn good. The background looks beautiful that it feels realistic. Pixar did a great job for a nature background. I mean, i wish il walk around the forest to see a beautiful place. As for the characters design, they look rather ok. Well sure Disney's Dinosaur design looks great for the dinosaur's design that we all know that it was originally to be documentary film, but it was changed for a big money. Here, it was rather dated for a cartoony dinosaur design. Even though the texture of their skin look good, but i wish if Pixar would've make a dinosaur looks good. But the T-Rex gang and the raptors looks great.

The characters
Some characters might be likable to watch, but some that might not be interesting. For Arlo, he's pretty much as like any other films. Which he was born to be very afraid of anything, until he'll learn to be a brave dinosaur and nothing else.

Next up there's a caveboy named Spot. I gotta say, he's easily a likable kid to help Arlo for a survival and he's rather cute. Despite he's a dog behavior. The relationship with Arlo and Spot is quiet interesting and cute to watch. Even though they explained about their loss of family until the end. If you're asking about Spot's family, no, i want talk about it, due to a spoilers. You should watch to find out.

For Arlo's family, they're pretty much as simple and nothing special at all for their appearance of first to final act. As for the other dinosaur, they're might be interesting, but they have a minor appearance with cliches like The T-Rex gang is just a helpful guys for Arlo, the raptors is just a lame comic relief that has nothing to do with the plot. And there's a vicious pterodactyl who's looking for hunting critters (including Spot, which he's not a critter, but a human.). Personally, i find the T-Rex gang are quiet likable to watch, but they're only appear in second act in the film with their fun personality. The characters in the movie might be good, but they would've avoid from the cliches. But Spot is easily a likable one. No wonder why he was picked up as a playable character in Disney Infinity 3.0.

and now for my final opinion of the film.
Overall, this film is averagely above to watch. It have a good animation, the characters are ok and the story is rather done before. I mean yeah, this movie has been done before with dinosaurs, it would been something original to make successful, but it was suffered with cliches and it was slightly better than Disney's Dinosaur. But its not as good than Inside-out, it was rather Pixar's weaker film since Cars 2 and Monsters University. If you love dinosaurs, this is for you. If you're like me, you'll find that this movie is unoriginal. If wanted to looking a good dinosaur movie, watch The land before time if you want.

Of course since this is Pixar film, it has a short film called Sanjay's Super Team, which i have to admit, looks interesting to watch. Its about a boy who dreamed to be a hero to fight against the evil force of Hindu. Which this film was based on a true story. Mostly...

I rate this movie 7.5/10. It may be interesting, but not as greater than Inside-out.

So this ends for my review. If you have your opinion or any suggestions, please send me a comments bellow, because i like to know for your opinion or a request.

*hold a ticket for a next movie* The force is calling me at December 18th...  Anyway, thanks for reading and im Anthony, signing out. ;)

Anthony's movie review: The Peanuts movie

Hey everyone, my name is Anthony and welcome back to my movie review. Have you guys remembered a comic strip called "Peanuts"?

Ah yes, this comic strip was first came out in 1950 in the dailies newspapers and created by the late Charles M. Schulz. It features with a lot of memorable characters, Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Sally, Peppermint Patty, Schroeder and of course, Snoopy and Woodstock. When the comic became popular, it going to make a cartoon special with the Peanuts gang on Television such as "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown". Which they both were nominated from Emmy awards.

I remembered read the books in library when i was like 6 year old. The only comic i remembered is a comic strip with Snoopy and Woodstock. Right before was focused on Garfield when i grew to 9. Oh well, i like them both in my childhood.

However, Charles passed away with his age of 77, the population of Peanuts is tone down after 50 years. But then, i saw a teaser of "The Peanuts movie" and it was done by an animation studio called "Blue Sky". When i saw it, i was anticipated to bring back the nostalgia. And this film came out for a 65th anniversary of the comic strip and the 50th anniversary of "A Charlie Brown Christmas".

So, does this film will make a good tribute for Charles M. Schulz, or is this film make me wanna go "Good grief..."?

Lets find out.

The Story.
After i looked at all kinds of epic stories with fantasies, actions, or superheroes. It was time to go with a quiet and simple story. It tells about a lovable loser, Charlie Brown, going out to hang with his friends in park or in school. Suddenly, he sees a little red-haired girl in his class, he was fall in love and pretty nervous to meet her. So Charlie is gonna find the way to be in good luck to stop being a bad luck to meet up a girl with a help of his pet dog Snoopy. and also a confident help from Lucy (sorta).
I gotta say, the story was simple and quiet interesting. Even though its nice that i take a break of epic story. However, there might be a flaws of this movie. Which there's a subplot involve of Snoopy going on the fight against The Red Baron to save his love-interest pilot name Fifi. It was good one, but does this have to do with the main plot? Nothing. I think its because they're trying to bring back the nostalgia about the dogfight with Snoopy and The Red Baron, but who cares, because its Peanuts.

The animation.
The animation itself looks pretty cool. its colorful and great. blue Sky did a great job for the animation 2D style of the characters, to make similar from the TV special, but with CGI. Plus, it uses a hand-draw animation from a few parts, which its nice to bring them back, but it showed for some part like a seconds. Even though some part used a 3D animation part (including a Dogfight sequence), which i though it would be cool like in the cartoon, but again, it was done in computer graphic images.
Overall, the animation is was great for the 2D style of the characters (Especially they add an extra quality for their design like hairs and fur).

The characters
Im pretty you're always familiar of the characters. Charlie Brown is an unlucky kid, Snoopy is Charlie's pet dog for a help, he's also pilot and Woodstock's best friend, Lucy is a bossy and crabby girl, Linus is Lucy's brother and Charlie's best friend, Schroeder is a piano-player and admirer of Beethoven, Peppermint Patty is a tomboy girl, Marcie is a bookish girl and Patty's best friend, Pig-Pen the dirty kid , Franklin, an African-American kid who's also Charlie's friend and Frieda, a girl who loves her own curly hair. These characters are great and legendary if you ever looked in the comic strip.

There's a little red-haired girl, who's supposed to be Charlie's love-interest. The downside about her is that she has no personality until the end (Btw, it won't tell it, because of spoiler). Btw, is it just me is this girl looks like Peggy Jean?

Finally, there's Fifi, Snoopy's love-interest and also a pilot. though i have to admit, she looks pretty cute for a love-interest of Snoopy. Even though she's the only character who never appear from the book. Its kinda shame, but im ok for her.

Plus, the voice acting of of the kids is great. Those kids did a great job for a the role of the characters. For me, i'd say Noah Schnapp fits very good for Charlie's role. they also use a voice footage of Bill Melendez's role of Snoopy and Woodstock. I guess its because they use an archive voice to dedicated on Bill. Which i think they brought the voice archive to bring back the nostalgia in cartoon specials.

And now for my final opinion of the film.

Overall, The Peanuts movie is great to be back from the childhood with great characters, good work of animation and interesting story. Though it has a flaws with a subplot that has nothing to do with the main story and some characters have a missing personality.

Plus, it has a short film called "Cosmic Scrat-tastrophe", with Scrat in a UFO for some reason. Which apparently, it was a promotion of Ice Age: Collision Course. Even though i remembered the first and two ice age, they're funny and great. But when the later films came out, i felt that its getting old and boring. All i gotta say for the short film: Just skip it, im getting tired of boring jokes... T_T (0/10)

Anyway, this movie will earn 8.5/10. I recommend to watch the movie if you love Peanuts. If you probably never heard of, give a try to watch a movie or maybe read a comic strip.

So this ends of my review, if you guys have a suggestion or your opinion, send a comments bellow that i would like to read.

Thanks for reading and im Anthony, signing out. ;)
