Movie review: The Founder

Hey everyone, my name is Anthony and welcome to my first movie review in 2017. Well, im ready to find out to see some movies that they'll coming out of this year. And, hope for the better.

Even though that the moon was destroyed by the Death Star after my review of "Rogue One", but i digress...

Last year, i watched the movie called "Race", a movie that was based on the true story about an African American went to Germany Olympic in 1936, since it had a Nazis. Its one of the film that i considered an average film. Not as better than 2013 "Rush".

But today, im going to review a film that i was curious that it came out last week that i wanna watch, which is a movie, about the world's famous restaurant.

The Founder is a film that it came out in late 2016 on Arclight Hollywood, but not before they brought the film in worldwide in early 2017. This may sound a bit cheating that it came out last year, but who cares. Anyway, the film was directed by John Lee Hancock, produced by Don Handfield and written by Robert D. Siegel.

As a fan of a famous restaurant McDonald's, again i was curious about the origin of this fast food restaurant from a vintage time. And i was anticipated that it has Michael Keaton in the movie.

So, with all that said, will The Founder made an interesting true story of our favorite fast food restaurant, or is this film that i'd rather going to Burger King?

Lets find out.

The story
As you may or may not know, its a true about the success of McDonald's. It all begins in the 1954, a man name Ray Kroc going out for selling a brand of milkshake restaurant called "Prince Castle", mainly because of a lack of performance in restaurant that he wanted find a good one. But not until he founded a fast food restaurant called "McDonald's", which it was run by the brothers with their same last name, Richard (aka Dick.) and Maurice (aka Mac). Kroc was fascinated with this fast food, he decided to join them to make it as a franchise in America and religion. So its up to him has to make a popularity of McDonald to help the brothers (Kinda.).

I find it a fascinating story to tell about a successful business in restaurant. But sure it may cause a flaws to how much budget to spreading a fast food in every town of country to make it popular or perhaps a reception about the food or their work. Although its a good story about the business, but my issue about the movie is that they could've add the story element that i want, that is a popularity of McDonald's items. I like to know how did they made a famous food like Big Mac, Filet-O-Fish and few more. Then again, this movie is all about the business between 1954 to 1970, but thats just my opinion that i wish if they put an extra plot element about the foods. Well, sure there's one part with a milkshake which it was popular back in the old days, but thats it.
The story itself was interesting how did McDonald's became popular, but i wish if they could add an extra element about the food.

The production
Since this is a true story film in vintage time, it looks pretty nice with showing a vintage car and the old restaurant design of McDonald's, its almost like we're like going back in time that we wanna see how the old one look like. Even though it was developed with over 7 million dollars of budget. They did a good job for the filming and the designs. But my nitpick of the movie is the first and final act, which Michael Keaton is closer in front of camera and talking to either a character off frame or himself, otherwise il probably made ask a same question of "Taxi Driver" with "Are you talking to me?".
They did a nice work of budget, but they couldn't make something silly like a close up in the beginning and the end.

The characters
Im sure if you may or may not know about the real life people from the past. Which il give you some explanation.

First is our old founder of McDonald Ray Kroc (played by Michael Keaton), he was originally as a business man in the old milkshake restaurant before joining in McDonald's. He's an interesting person that he made the fast food restaurant to became popular for families and religious (I think...). Its also mentioned that he's most important person in "Time 100". Aside for the truth of his famous, Michael did a great job as the former CEO of McDonald's

As for the McDonald's brother with Dick (played by Nick Offerman, aka Metalbeard from The Lego Movie.) and Mac (played by John Carroll Lynch). These guys are the great example for the introduction of their fast food restaurant. But they had a rough time in the beginning, which they originally want to making their movie theater in Hollywood, but falls flat, they doing their second attempt by doing a hot dogs stand, but didn't do well for their depression and a lack of money. And so, they made a restaurant, but not before they're finally got better for the supports. Even though they had a difficult time for their dreams, especially with Mac had a diabetes. But at least they're kinda did get better. Despite their dramas, Nick and John did a nice work of their performance of brothers of McDonald's.

they're few other characters like Joan Smith (aka Joan Kroc, played by Linda Cardellini), who's Ray's wife and former replacement of Ray's business (Im sure if you know the real story and spoiler alert?), Harry J. Sonneborn (played by B. J. Novak), Fred Turner (played by Justin Randell Brooke) and few more...
The characters in the movie is a good example how did they became history of McDonald's that we all know and love. And they did a great work of acting.

And now for my final opinion of the film
Overall, "The Founder" is a fascinating true story film i've ever seen. The story is good, the production looks nice and the acting is entertaining. Although i have some problems like this is another film takes about 2 hours (But at least i didn't go to the restroom in the middle of the movie.), the story could've add more like the items in McDonald's and a questionable close up filming in the opening and the ending.  If you're a fan of McDonald's, this one is for you, i recommend to watch it for the origins. If not, well im pretty sure you could check a Wikipedia page about their actual origins.

So for my rating, il give it 7/10.

Well, talk about a good start for my movie review. So, if you have your opinion or any suggestions, let me know at the comment bellow.
